TOday is my last day in Wilmington with Eastern Skate Supply. It's kinda hard to believe it's actually over. Looking back on it, I'm amazed at myself for doing it. To rap up my last day I took a long list of pictures and cropped them to fit the website. This was the first time I actually finished everything on the list. At four o'clock I had officially reached 300 hours. I went around the warehouse and said my good byes. It's kinda sad as well because I've spent my entire summer with these guys and now it's time for me to return to Fayetteville. It was awesome working with ESS, I really wouldn't mind working for these guys. I get to be surrounded by skate products. Now I can actually relax for two weeks before school actually starts. My next update will be around September with Surf Expo. Not really sure what I will be doing but the experience would be great for me. Until that time. Bye

August 3, 2010

Another day in graphic design. I took a bunch of pictures so that means there was a lot of cropping to do. Which is what exactly happened. I've really got the hang of it all. It's now to the point where all I do now is take the pictures, rename them and start cropping. The only ones that give me trouble still are the wheels, still trying to figure those out. Well tomorrow is my last day and I'm really excited, I can't wait.

August 2, 2010

This week is my final week here at Eastern Skate Supply. I've had a lot of fun and I've learned a lot from maintenance to graphic design. The only down to this all is that it was unpaid and I had to commute every time I was here. I know however that this place would be awesome on my resume in the skateboarding world. I am very glad I fought through all the lack of sleep and here I am now with the finish line right in front of me. Today I was left on my own a little bit today. The guy who usually looks the pictures I take wasn't here so I took the pictures and hoped they came out great. To help him out a lot I started cropping the pictures to fit the website. This actually takes up a lot of space and I took a lot of pictures. This actually takes all day or two days to get one days of pictures cropped. I only got halfway through the list before it was to go. Hopefully I did a good job

After I finished taken pictures of everything that I could, I was able to help with getting the pictures ready for the website. I started by cropping the picture and deleting everything out of the background. It really takes up a lot of time and before I know it it's time to go. With only 3 more days to go I can only hope that those days go by fast because that means I get to sleep in until school starts again.

July 27, 2010

Another day in graphic design. The weather keep forcing me to wait for short periods of time because I get the best pictures outside. I had to settle for inside a building but the pictures still came out great. Like I said before this is really time consuming and before I know it, it's time to go. So glad only one more week is left of this. The experience is great and ESS would look great on my resume in the skateboarding industry. I'll be taken more pictures of new products that come in tomorrow, I wonder what they could be.

July 26, 2010

Spent the whole day in graphic design. I took many pictures of the products and helped a little bit with resizing and cropping to fit the website. It was fun to actually chill for the day and stay cool. Time really does fly by so fast here in graphic design, before I knew it it was time to go. We always get new products in everyday, it also helps that there is always something new to find or to wait for it to be put on the floor. I can really learn to like it here, too bad it has to end.

Same thing as yesterday except I finished up a little early with grahpic design. Since I did that I was able to complete two orders of stickering. If I didn't memorize some of the codes or know what the products are it would of taken me a lot longer than usual. Well until Monday

July 20, 2010

Once again nothing new to report. I began my day taking pictures for graphic design and finished up in the on the line in the warehouse. Like I always do but I get to sticker place stickers on certain orders for their inventory. It's getting to the point where I don't even look at the paper and look straight at the sticker to read what the product is. I find myself starting to memorize what the codes are and where everything is located in the warehouse.

July 19, 2010

Nothing new to report. First half was with graphic design and the second half was in the warehoue. I'm countin down the days until I'm done. The drives are taking its toll on me. I'm finding myself getting less and less sleep but not that much more. I just hope my body can endure it just a little longer.

I had to start a little late with taking pictures because of the weather. I got to pull a lot of products to take pictures of them and by that time the ground had dried up so I could take pictures of them. I got a load of pictures and products taken. I spent almost all day with them but I finished up around 3 and spent the rest of the day stickering another order. It was a bunch longboards which really didn't take long, well thats because I couldn't see the time and I finished up and helped on the line and actually finished on time.

July 13, 2010

Got to take some more pictures of new products. We actually get a lot of new products in everyday. However they may not actually be on the floor for awhile. Some products haven't been through the receiving people yet so I can't take the picture of it. I do get to actually see and touch the product before almost anybody so it all works out, I enjoy it. Did what I did yesterday and actually finished up a little early with the graphic design so I went back into the warehouse to do a sticker. It took me the entire time I was there to actually complete it but I finished it and actually boxed it up. After that I helped the line clear up and load up the UPS truck which came a lot later than usual.

July 12, 2010

Today I got to work with graphic design. I really didn't know what to expect or what I would be doing. What I'm doing is helping them update on the website. I go out into the warehouse and actuall pull the product and take pictures of the new products we get it and the design people will crop them and place them onto the website. I have to take the pictures and let them look at it to see if the lighting and angle is ok. A lot of the bigger products must be pictured outside in the shade to make a good picture. Little things like trucks or hats will be shot in this room upstairs. Once I get a great picture of the product I have to upload them and rename them of what the product is. Once that is done I take the products back and restock them. I do that for about half the day, then I return to the warehouse and help out the rest of the day.

Today was my last day in the warehouse. I still have no clue what I will be doing with the graphic design part of this internship. Only time will tell. Well nothing new to report. Started off my day lookin for empty boxes throughout the entire warehouse. We were trying to make one more pallet of crushed boxes but only got half way. After that I spent the entire time folding boxes and putting the packages into the truck.

Today I had to finish up the store's inventory. It took me until 3 or 4 o'clock to completely finish the order. I just remember folding boxes until the line started to get out of hand again. I believe that was the last hour. The UPS guy didn't show up on time and I had to leave to get my hotel for the night. I waited as long as possible but I had to go. I really hated that I left but I needed to get my room. Next time I'm going to reserve my room the day before, just in case this happens again. Also I find out that I will be doing graphic design starting next week. I have no clue what exactly what I will be doing but I'm ready for it.

I started off my day helping on the line. Not long after that I was given the task of putting stickers on the products for a skate shop again. This order was huge, I spent the whole day working on this and I'm not even half way done. I have to do decks, trucks, wheels, tools, risers, and completes. Decks and trucks were the special ones because they were the ones that had to be boxed up. I managed to complete all the decks and box them up. I got through only half the trucks before the line started get out of hand. The packages were building up, so I helped finish up the line and load the truck up.

It feels really good to only drive 5 minutes rather than 2 hours to go Wilmington. I wasn't exhauted at all, all day. Anyway once I got there I folded a little more extra boxes until I was given a task by the shipping manager. It was the same deal with the other shop order by putting on those labels on the products. This time it was just shop decks. It really was a timely project. I spent almost the entire time I was there to finish. There were 200 decks total so you can see why it took awhile. However once I was done I folded boxes until it time for my commute back so I can go to work and still make some money. Before I left though I spoke to the my site supervisor about possibly doing something else for my project. She was going to look into it when Mr. Reggie Barnes overheard our conversation. First he told me how great of a hardworker I was and how I put some of the people there to shame. He even told me to keep them updated when I finish college because he would love to keep and even said no matter what I do I will excel in it. He even invited me to help with the surf expo which is a 3 day event where all the vendors gather and meet one another. Also it a great chance for us to meet new vendors and possible do business with them. It will be in Orlando and I'm going to try do this as my internship project. This will be a great experience, plus I'll be in Orlando

A little bad news. Plan B which is the team that was coming to do the demo is cancelled. I'm going to talk with the sales manager about another possible intern project. Well my day went like always. Spent the first half between folding boxes and working on the line. After awhile I was asked to fold a load of boxes. This really does speed up production for the shippers. Towards the end I was helping one of the shippers with on of the orders. It really isn't that hard. I really want to be the ones who actually go around the warehouse and gather the products and bring them to the shippers. I also would like to ship on my own. Just a thought.

June 29, 2010

I had a little special project with the shipping manager today. I had to place little stickers with a bar code and a whole sale code for the customer. ESS only does for that for certain customers. I spent almost 3/4 of the day working on that. I spent the final hours folding boxes and finish up cleaning the line.

Today started off like everyday. Clean up the place, vacuum for one hours and watch the line. I was asked again to fold boxes for the shippers. I did that for about half the day. The person who usually stays on the line had an errand to run they put me on the line to finish up the day. So say safe to say I've actually spent a whole day by myself on the line if you include last week as well. By the time he left, he helped me clean up the line alittle so it was backed up. If I can keep getting a good nights sleep this won't be so hard. Plus the commute does take it out of you.

Additinoal note: I've worked it out and I'll be able to stay Wednesday nights so I can be here half the day on Thursday.

June 23, 2010

I noticed that I've been working under the shipping manager for awhile. He can me a task of helping the guy upstairs which is where we keep the clothing and pads. First I had to do a little remodeling with some wires. One of the wires powering a fan was low and the fire marshall didn't like that, so I had to made it so it was higher in air. Next I helped fold some additional. This was after I folded some more boxes down stairs for the shippers. Once again towards the end of they day I jumped back onto the line and helped clear a lot of packages and load up the truck.

On a side note I rearranging my money issue so I can actually stay at least one night here in Wilmington. It's going to be on Wednesday nights so I can be here at least half the day on Thursday. It puts less stress on me and my car. Hopefully I'll be able to do this.

H - 9

June 22, 2010

Today was a little easier. I helped the people in the warehouse by folding a mad load of boxes. This actually speeds up production for the shippers so everything is sent out on time. Towards the end of the day I just back onto the line because they had enough boxes to last them until tomorrow. We actually finished up the finally packages 15 minutes before the UPS truck came and loaded up the remaining packages. This day actually went by really fast.

Hours - 9

June 21, 2010

Today I was put to the test because I was on my own till about 4 or 5 o'clock. I was in charge of watching the line which is what the packages are put on before we tape them up and load them into the truck. To make matters a little heavy on me, it was extremely hot and Mondays are the worst day because we have orders that have been waiting to be put out since Friday and plus the ones being put in today. However I was able to pull it off. Finally help did come and I was able to relax a little, but just a little. That was very difficult to do with the heat but I did it.

I have a awesome opportuinty in the making. Plan B which is a huge skateboard company is coming to ESS for a demo open to the public. I'm going to be in charge of the marketing/advertising the event. I'm going to use this as my internship project. I'm waiting for more details to arrive so more to come. Today started off slow but picked up over time. Started off my day cleaning a huge fan for the upstairs. However something went wrong not long after we finshed and set it all up. It kept leaking so we shut off the pump that makes it feel like A/C. I was asked my the shipping manager to fold some fog dog boxes. Which is mainly used for complete setups. I folded about 100 of those boxes so that was that. I actually learned something today which I thought was awesome. I learned to do drop ship and regular ship. I learned to drop ship first. All I have to do is make sure what I have matches with my sheet. Put it through the computer print out the labels and print an invoice and ship it. I handled the last 10 orders and it was easy once I got the rhythm down. It was cool than I learned how the shop orders were done as well. These take up a lot of time. You have to make sure what you have is what you want to ship and keep track of it all. Also sometimes you have to create your package slip because not everything will fit into one box. Once that was all done the day was over and I finished up loading up the truck.

H - 9

June 15, 2010

Today was a very very slow day. The day start off by the computers messing up so no new orders were coming through. I did do about three more halls upstairs. It is extremely dusty up there. With nothing to really do I started folding a load of boxes again. At least I was making myself look busy and not just standing around. Around the end of the day I started loading up the truck again. We finished up 15 minutes early and the truck came at 6, on time, and we loaded it up as slow as possible. Only 58 boxes were loaded up which is lower than usual.

June 14, 2010

Nothing new to report. I'm still working with David in maintenance. It's a lot more work than you really think. I started my day with vacuuming the upstairs where we keep the clothing. I was only able to complete 3 halls before I ran out of cord. We usually vacuum for one hour a day any way. I finished the rest of my day by folding several boxes and loading up the final truck so we could get out of there. However we had a lot of boxes to load up and the truck didn't show up on time and we still had boxes to be loaded up. We waiting for about 10 minutes waiting for the truck. Finally it can and my day ended.

Today was a little slow at first because the computers went down for the first half of work. I knew however towards the end we would get extremely busy. I started my day crushing boxes that were waiting to be crushed. After that was done I rolled around the warehouse looking for trash that needed to be picked up. I also went through the aisles of the decks to get any other trash. After that I asked one the people who could operate fork lift and get me down several pallets of 10 decks. Those are the main boxes that are used and what I fold. I wanted to get those down so I can get several started and when it got low I just start up again to keep the guys flowing. Other than that nothing new to report.

June 8, 2010

Once again I was in the warehouse. I started off my day loading up the trucks with the packages. I was on top of everything. I crushed several boxes with the spare I had waiting on the other boxes. This lasted unitl about 10:30. The Joe asked me to just fold boxes because two people weren't at work and so glad I did fold those boxes. Around 3 or 4 all the orders were set up for the shippers. So almost everybody were shipping products. I ended up helping David load up the truck. Even with my help we stayed an extra hour trying to load up the truck. However we did get it done and that it was a relief. On a little side note, my motivation was high but it just went through the roof today. ESS had several interns before me but I'm the first one to really be in the warehouse like I am. Most of them were in the office with the sales manager or with the sales force. I'm the first to really bust my butt with everyone in the warehouse. I always thought that was all the interns did. It lifted my spirits a lot to hear that.

June 7, 2010

Today went by very fast. We are replacing part of the floor with new cement that the fork lift will be able to roll over with ease. In order to start that we had to tear up the old one and sweep it out. Once that was done, there were several boxes ready to be put into the truck. That lasted a good while but after that we had a little project to complete. It is very hot in the warehouse and they only have very little fans to work with. So David and I set up several fans around the warehouse to keep the guys cool. It's a big difference now. Spent the remainder of the day loading up the truck.

Today I was in the warehouse again. I've been working a lot with David who is the maintenance person here. He does a lot of the cleaning here and loads a truck full of packaged products. After awhile I was given a task of folding a load of boxes for the shipping people. Once I had the pallets folded I was under Joe. Joe gave me the task of getting these decks from a company that never got started. I had to organize them and we were going to try to trasform them. By that I mean put a different graphic on it. After I organized them by shape Joe turned on the machine. He did one just to see what would happen. We only had enough time to one. I'm thinking that is what I will be doing for awhile when I return on Monday.

June 1, 2010

Today I got to be in the warehouse day. We had huge shipment from our vendors come in today. With the Memorial holiday yesterday we are a little behind everything. I helped unload the truck. It reminded me of when I was with DaVille Skate Shop. After that I was given the tast of cleaning a door that wasn't clean for at least six years, according to one of the employees. After that I was given the task of vacuuming. A lot of places here are very dusty but one place that is very important to be vacuumed is where we keep the decks. That's our main product and Mr. Reggie like to think about it as his living room. He wants to keep it clean like he has company over. After one hour of vacuuming I started to help the people in shipping. Since we had a three day weekend our orders started to pile up. To help out the shipping people I started folding boxes for them so all they have to do is pack the product and also when I had a little extra and time to kill I helped seal the packages and loaded them into a truck so the UPS guy could get what he needs. Before I knew it operation had seized at 6. Tomorrow is unclear what I will be doing but I will find out.

Today was the Real Skate Team demo here at ESS. Before all that even started I went around the warehouse and receiving area and introduced myself to some of the workers. Several of them skate the same way I do. It's amazing how several people in this industry do and don't skate. All of them are all fans of the sport and I like that. I askes of the people in receiving of what they do and he showed me. Just doing the invoice like I did at DaVille skate shop. I was also introduced to David who does a lot of the maintence. I helped him in getting the park cleaned for the skate team. He also showed me how they store the packed products in and how. I wish I got more time to do it but the skate team was closing in so we couldn't stay long there. I ended up vacuuming the bowl that in the park until they got there. I should find out what I will be doing Tuesday. I hope its's going to be fun.

May 26, 2010

A little update on my status. I won't be working at ESS due to a work conflict with my job. All the people at my position have called out and I'm the last resort. I will miss the demo for Real and I'm going to see if I can do anything that day with ESS. No promises though. at 11:23 A.M.

11:34 update. Currently I'm still doing research under the Sales Manager on all the products we carry and all the different vendors we buy off. The skate section I've basically got down, it's just the surf section that is way out of my league. I've always stayed with skateboards. However, surf is apart of this company so I have to put in double time with that industry. I only know of one pro surfer, but that equalivent to only knowing Tony Hawk in skateboarding. I have to really get on the ball on this one. Also on Friday I should have a schedule of what I'll will be doing each week.

5:30 update. I will be coming back down here tomorrow but only for a short period of time do to my work schedule. I will find out what I will be doing tomorrow.

May 25, 2010

For now I'll be working here on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This week is one exception because I'm off from my job on Thursday so I will be here again to work. I just hope my body can keep handling the drive back and forth, as long as I have my music on the trip I should be fine. I was able to sit, observe, and listen on to different scenarios that arose when I was present. From what I can gather it's just common sense when dealing with customers on the phone. I was giving the tast of research the Real Skateboard team. They are doing an demo that is not open the public on Thursday. I'm researching to see what the team is up to now, anything and everything about it. I'm going to see if there is anything else I can do for them, if not then I will be just watching in amazement.

May 24, 2010

Today is my first day at Eastern Skate Supply. It's a two hours drive to commute but the experience is more than worth it. I got a tour of the facility and met several employees. It's still unclear of what I will be doing here but once I find out I will post it. One thing I did was research what type of vendors ESS deals with. I spent the entire day researching all the products vendors. I've always knew about the different companies but I never thought about where they came from or who makes them. That was a surprsie to me. I say companies that I never heard of and companies that I knew but didn't know it was them that made them. A lot of companies make more than one type of products. I have a better understanding of a distribtuion center. I knew they send out products but the concept of it all was unclear to me. It makes total sense of why they exist. I should have a better idea of what I will be doing tomorrow.
